What does a typical strategy project look like? Let’s dissect one!

Strategy can be such an amorphous thing. What exactly is it anyways? What goes into it? And most importantly, what comes out?

So many digital professionals have these questions, which is why I want to share with you some details about a recent strategy project I completed with a my team at Hello Sunshine PLLC.

While there are many types of strategy projects, spanning the realms of business to user experience to messaging and more, the strategy project I’ll share with you today is all about content and channel planning.

Let’s dive in!

Q: What questions did this strategy answer?
A: For this project, we answered the following questions:

  • Who should we be speaking with and how do we engage them in a meaningful conversation that meets their key needs?
  • What are we talking about and how are we delivering those messages (including content features, tone and voice, and formats)?
  • Where and when are we delivering these messages (including paid, earned, and owned channels)?

Q: How long did this project take?
A: While I’ve found that a typical strategy project takes 12–16 weeks to complete, this one was completed in just 8 weeks!

Q: How many people were on the team?
A: The team consisted of six very talented digital professionals, participating at various levels over the course of the project, including:

  • Strategy Lead
  • Research Recruiter
  • User Researcher
  • UX Strategist
  • Content Strategist
  • Social Strategist

Q: What deliverables were created?
A: We delivered three amazing deliverables:

  • User research insights report
  • Persona
  • Content and social strategy recommendation
  • Analytics recommendation
